Tommy Freeman signs new Northampton Saints deal
Tommy Freeman has signed a new contract with Northampton Saints.
The club confirmed the extension on 16 September. Freeman, a 25-year-old England winger — the wide finisher tasked with scoring tries — had one season left on his previous terms, according to BBC Sport. The length of the new deal was not disclosed.
Freeman has made 118 appearances for Saints across all competitions and scored 79 tries. He is a product of the club’s academy and made his first-team debut in 2019. He delivers. Often.
His England record is just as sharp. Freeman has won 30 caps, the term for international appearances, and scored 11 tries since his debut in the 2021 autumn internationals. He has played for England on both the wing and at centre, the midfield role that carries more tackling and distribution.
He was also part of the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2025. That combined team, picked every four years from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, tests itself against southern-hemisphere opposition. Freeman played six matches on tour, including all three Tests.
Saints supporters will remember his part in the club’s big day in 2024. Freeman scored the opening try as Northampton beat Bath in the Premiership final, the showpiece for England’s top division. Saints were the reigning champions when he last extended his stay in October 2024.
He is not staying alone. Fin Smith, Fraser Dingwall and Alex Mitchell have also agreed new deals with Saints, according to BBC Sport. Smith, the fly-half who directs the attack, has made 63 appearances and scored 589 points for the club.
For supporters, this means continuity. Keeping a homegrown finisher with Test and Lions experience gives Northampton pace out wide and cover in midfield without a rebuild.
