Bokeem Woodbine Joins Apple TV's CIA Thriller Disavowed
Bokeem Woodbine has joined Apple TV's action thriller Disavowed as a series regular, meaning a main cast member signed across the season. Deadline reported the casting on 17 September 2026.
Disavowed stars James Marsden as Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA Case Officer. Marsden, an Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, also serves as executive producer, meaning he helps guide creative and business decisions on the show.
Griffin is abruptly fired in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin who killed his colleague, according to Apple. Cut loose from the organisation that trained him, he goes after a $15 million federal bounty placed on the killer's head. That is the engine of the series.
He will not be alone on screen. Norman Reedus and Sylvia Hoeks have also been cast in Disavowed. Details of Woodbine's character have not been disclosed.
Behind the camera, Disavowed was written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway from their original idea. Both are executive producers alongside Tom Spezialy, Michelle MacLaren, Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity. The series hails from Apple Studios, with Blue Marble Pictures producing.
MacLaren will direct the first two episodes, setting the visual template for the season. Rebecca Hobbs is also an executive producer under her overall deal with Apple TV, meaning a long-term pact to develop shows for the platform. That structure is common in streaming television, where a platform owns the show through its in-house studio and brings in an outside production company to mount it.
Woodbine arrives with recent Apple history. He was part of the main cast of the 2025 Apple TV comedy-drama Government Cheese. He earned an Emmy nomination for FX's Fargo and will next appear in Season 2 of Showtime's Dexter: Resurrections and in A24's film Primetime. He is repped by Gersh and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer, meaning those firms handle his agency and legal representation.
What makes this stand out is fit. Woodbine moves easily between grounded drama and high-pressure thriller. That range suits a favourite television set-up: a skilled officer working outside the system, with a bounty driving him forward.
