MobLand Season 2 Opens With a Massacre as Tom Hardy Locks In Season 3 Return

Tom Hardy will return for MobLand Season 3 after a backstage row that briefly put his future in doubt.

The confirmation arrives with the Season 2 premiere, titled “I Wanna Be Your Dog”, which does not wait around. Ten minutes in, there is a massacre at the racetrack, according to Variety.

That bloodshed has a business logic. Conrad Harrigan, the patriarch of the Harrigan crime family played by Pierce Brosnan, uses it to end the family’s partnership with the Turkish mob in a spray of bullets.

MobLand is the Paramount+ series about Harry Da Souza, played by Hardy, and his work keeping the Harrigans thriving in London’s criminal underworld while staying off law enforcement’s radar. Variety has described Harry, the family’s longtime fixer, as the anchor of that universe.

Harry came into the family through an old friendship with Kevin Harrigan, played by Paddy Considine. Kevin is the son of Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, with Maeve, played by Helen Mirren, as the family matriarch. The Harrigans’ biggest rivals are the Stevenson family, per Paramount+.

Home life is messy too. Harry’s wife Jan, played by Joanne Froggatt, has been married to him for 18 years and that marriage is in trouble. Their teenage daughter Gina, played by Teddie Allen, has run off with Eddie, who is Kevin’s son and is played by Anson Boon.

That turmoil sets up the season’s warning line. In the Season 2 trailer, Harry tells the family: “This family is in a death spiral,” as broken down by Paramount+.

What makes this stand out is how close the show came to losing its lead. After Season 2 wrapped in March, Hardy fell out with executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios and others. Early reports said the clash was so severe he would not come back for Season 3.

The dispute had been public for months. The Hollywood Reporter reported in May that Hardy had refused to leave his trailer during production, keeping Brosnan and Mirren waiting for hours. Days later, Variety reported he had not been fired and that talks were under way for his return, with creative issues being worked through.

That return is now official. Season 2 runs for 10 episodes, with critics given the first four for review.
