Apple TV sets spring 2027 for Jessica Chastain's The Savant
Apple TV will release The Savant, its Jessica Chastain thriller, in spring 2027, almost 18 months after pulling it days before transmission. The exact date is still being finalised, according to Deadline.
The eight-part drama had been due to premiere on 26 September 2025 with a two-episode launch. Apple put it on hold three days before that date. At the time, no new release date had been set.
The postponement was linked to the show's subject matter. The Savant centres on efforts to stop extremist attacks and includes imagery involving sniper attacks, which was considered potentially triggering two weeks after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Apple said in a 2025 statement: "After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant." The company added that it looked forward to releasing the series at a future date.
Chastain publicly disagreed with the call. She said she was "not aligned" with Apple on the decision to postpone the series, in comments reported by Deadline. In April, she told Variety that Apple would eventually release the show.
The series stars Chastain as an undercover investigator known as "The Savant." She infiltrates online hate groups to stop domestic extremists before they act.
It is a limited series, meaning it is designed to tell one complete story in a single season. It comes from writer and showrunner Melissa James Gibson, the lead writer-boss on a production, alongside producers Fifth Season and Anonymous Content.
The cast includes Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley and Toussaint Francois Battiste, with Pablo Schreiber as a guest star and James Badge Dale in a major recurring role. Chastain and Kelly Carmichael executive produce through Freckle Films, alongside Alan Poul, Gibson and Matthew Heineman, who also directs. David Levine and Garrett Kemble are executive producers for Anonymous Content.
For viewers who have waited since last autumn, this means a finished show will finally get a slot. The spring 2027 release will also make The Savant eligible for the 2027 Emmys.
