Marvel's Wolverine players report Mystique marriage blurred in Middle East version
Some players say Wolverine changes in the Middle East.
In copies attributed to the region, they claim Marvel's Wolverine hides Mystique's lesbian relationship and marriage to a character named Tyger. The details were laid out in reporting published on 21 September 2026 Eurogamer.
The claimed edits focus on two small in-game items that players can inspect up close. A framed wedding-day photo of the couple is blurred in the game world, and appears blank when picked up for a closer look. A letter between Mystique and Tyger is blurred so heavily that it cannot be read.
Sound is affected too. In a clip attributed to the Middle East version, the dialogue audio drops out when the word 'wife' is used about the relationship. The subtitles show asterisks in place of the word.
In other versions, that marriage carries real story weight. Mystique and Tyger's marriage sits at the centre of Mystique's section of the story. It also shapes her friendship with Wolverine himself.
What makes this stand out is how much story rides on small details. A photo, a letter and a single word carry much of the marriage thread, so blurring and muting them alters how that thread lands for players seeing that version.
There is a recent precedent involving the same developer. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was modified before release in Saudi Arabia to remove LGBTQ+ references. Those changes included the Pride Flag. They also included a side mission, an optional story away from the main plot, featuring a gay couple.
Marvel's Wolverine is an original adventure from Insomniac Games built around the Marvel character. PlayStation lists it as coming September 15 and as available only on PS5 consoles PlayStation. The story spans the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo and the Hightown and Lowtown districts of Madripoor.
Pre-ordering any edition brings early unlocks, according to PlayStation's listing. That includes the Classic Brown Suit and Reflective Claws, one Technique Point and four PlayStation avatars.
Kotaku reported on 20 September 2026 that the game was seemingly censored in some places, cutting references to Mystique's lesbian relationship Kotaku. The later reporting added the photo, letter and audio examples. The accounts remain player claims about regional versions, not independently confirmed findings.
