Calling Blizzard's StarCraft reboot an Xbox exclusive would be incorrect.

Blizzard gave that answer when asked whether the game would come to PlayStation as well as Xbox and PC. A spokesperson added that the company "can only say for now" that the project won't "be exclusive," GameSpot reported.

The game is a change of direction for the series. It is an open-world shooter, a game where players explore a large world on foot and fight with ranged weapons, played in third person, with the camera behind the character. Creative director Dan Hay said the team is focusing on single-player, meaning one player against the game rather than online opponents.

Blizzard announced the reboot, titled STARCRAFT, during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony. The company said it will land in Spring 2030 and is set in the Koprulu Sector, the science-fiction region where the earlier games took place, according to Blizzard.

The date is distant. The previous two StarCraft games were PC real-time strategy games, where players build bases and direct armies in real time.

Blizzard has confirmed an Xbox release, a detail first carried by a UK social media account. The studio also told Kotaku that PC and Battle.net, its online store and launcher, are foundational to Blizzard. It has not published a full platform list.

The ownership question is part of the interest. Microsoft acquired Blizzard in 2023 as part of its nearly US$75.4 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard.

For players, this means the broad shape is clear and the exact consoles are not. Blizzard has ruled out the Xbox-exclusive label without saying which other systems are in. More detail will have to wait.
