Junya Watanabe and Mammut launch seven-piece outdoor capsule

Japanese designer Junya Watanabe has teamed up with Mammut, the Swiss mountaineering specialist, on a seven-piece outdoor capsule.
The eYe Junya Watanabe Man + Mammut collection launches globally on September 24. Seven pieces. No more. It is sold through selected Mammut channels and premium retail partners, according to The Impression.
The range sits under eYe Junya Watanabe Man, Watanabe's menswear line established in 2005. It is a capsule collection, a short limited-edition range, of six jackets and one backpack, according to WWD.
The clothes are cut for modern lifestyles and city streets. They also reflect a fascination with mountain environments. Mammut describes the meeting point as mountain culture crossed with contemporary design.
Two jackets anchor the line-up. One is a four-pocket jacket in Ventile cotton with a detachable hood. The other is an insulated jacket with Watanabe's signature patchwork details, where different fabrics are pieced together in one garment.
Mammut brings the mountain history. The company was founded in a Swiss village in 1862 and is known for mountaineering apparel and climbing equipment. Watanabe brings the fashion following, with Mammut calling him an acclaimed Japanese designer on its homepage.
The Swiss company is pushing the link hard. Its homepage carries the line "JUST DROPPED: JUNYA WATANABE COLLAB." Its website lists a JWMAN + MAMMUT WR-J927 Premiere Down Jacket as part of what it calls an elevated winter capsule, according to Mammut.
Mammut says the collaboration combines Watanabe's design approach with its own performance mountaineering craftsmanship. In another post it says Watanabe reinterprets its heritage and reimagines the mountain world through a dreamlike lens. The trade press describes it as Swiss alpine heritage filtered through Watanabe's design perspective, according to Hypebeast.
For fans, this means technical kit built to be worn beyond the trail. City commuters get mountain construction. Climbers get a designer's cut.
