Sky has found its Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander. David Oyelowo and Viola Prettejohn will play the journalist and hacker at the centre of its television adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Deadline reported on 24 September 2026.

The series adapts the first book in Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy. The story is updated to the present day. It follows Blomkvist and Salander as they dig into the disappearance of Harriet Vanger from her wealthy family's secluded island home more than three decades earlier.

The scripts come from Amanda Coe, Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna. All three write and serve as executive producers, a senior credit covering creative and financial oversight. Reinaldo Marcus Green directs and takes the same senior credit, with Andrea Harkin and Amy Neil also directing episodes.

Oyelowo will also executive produce. Charlotte Moore and John Phillips do so for Left Bank Pictures, and Sam Hoyle does so for Sky. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures for Sky. Sony owns Left Bank.

Filming starts soon. Cameras are due to roll in Lithuania in October, according to the same report. No US home yet. Sony is handling international sales and is still seeking buyers in the United States.

Sony is expected to bring the project to MIPCOM, the international television market in Cannes where distributors sell shows to buyers around the world, in October. The path to production is now clear after a dispute over television and film rights between Banijay and Sony was resolved amicably.

For viewers new to the books, this is a fresh starting point. Prettejohn is already familiar to Left Bank audiences. She previously played the young Princess Elizabeth in the company's royal drama The Crown.
