David Oyelowo and Viola Prettejohn to Lead Sky's Dragon Tattoo Series

David Oyelowo and Viola Prettejohn will play Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander in Sky's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Variety reported on 24 September.
The announcement puts the two central characters in place. Short and clear. Oyelowo takes the role of Blomkvist, a journalist whose reputation has collapsed. Prettejohn takes the role of Salander, a hacker who works outside the usual rules. One works in public, even when the public no longer trusts him. The other works in private, where few people see her at all. The series turns on what happens when their investigations collide.
The show is planned as an eight-part mystery thriller, meaning one continuous story told across eight episodes. It comes from Left Bank Pictures, the production company making the series. It is billed as a television reimagining of Stieg Larsson's Millennium book series, meaning a new version built for TV rather than a straight repeat of a previous adaptation. For anyone coming fresh, that is the starting point. Two investigators. One dark case. Eight hours to tell it.
Behind the camera, Reinaldo Marcus Green has joined as lead director and executive producer. A lead director sets the visual tone and directs key episodes. An executive producer helps steer the creative direction and the practical running of the production. The writing team is Amanda Coe, Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna, who are also credited as executive producers on the series.
Sky will air the series in the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. That footprint covers the markets where Sky operates its own channels and streaming service. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution, Variety reported, meaning it will sell the finished show to other broadcasters and platforms around the world. That split is normal in television. One home market first. Other deals to follow.
For viewers, this means the shape of the show is now set. The leads are named. The episode count is fixed. The creative team is in place. That is a lot answered in one announcement. The next details to watch for are the rest of the cast and a transmission date, which have not been given in the reporting so far.
