Netflix renews The Beast in Me for Season 2 with Claire Danes returning

Netflix has renewed The Beast in Me for Season 2, with Claire Danes returning to star as Aggie Wiggs. The renewal was reported by Variety on 24 September 2026. Danes will also executive produce the new season.
The decision changes the show's shape. Netflix first ordered The Beast in Me in 2024 as a limited series, meaning it was commissioned to tell one complete story with no further seasons planned. That plan has now changed.
Danes is the anchor for what comes next. She plays acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs, a writer who withdrew from public life after the death of her young son, according to Netflix. Season 1 paired her with Matthew Rhys as Nile, alongside Brittany Snow and Natalie Morales.
Behind the camera, there is a new structure. Howard Gordon will serve as co-showrunner alongside Daniel Pearle. A showrunner is the person who leads the creative decisions day to day.
Pearle wrote the first season and was an executive producer on it. Gabe Rotter is the creator of the series and also an executive producer. The series is produced by 20th Television.
Gordon has also signed a broader agreement around the renewal. He has struck an overall TV deal with Netflix under his Teakwood Lane Productions banner to develop new series for the streamer. That type of deal means a writer develops future projects for one company. His previous return to 20th Television in 2024 was contracted specifically for The Beast in Me, with no overall deal behind it.
The numbers help explain why. The Beast in Me debuted at No. 1 on Netflix's global Top 10 chart in its debut week and stayed in the Top 10 for five weeks. It then passed 43 million views in seven weeks, per Netflix.
Awards attention followed. Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series for Season 1. The show also won for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special. It was named among Netflix's leading 2026 Emmy-nominated titles alongside BEEF, The Diplomat, Black Rabbit and Monster: The Ed Gein Story, in a year when Netflix earned 111 Emmy nominations, according to Netflix Tudum.
For viewers, this means more story. Netflix and the creative team opened a writers' room earlier in 2026 to explore a second season. A writers' room is a small team that develops scripts before a full series is approved. That exploration has now become an order.
