Minecraft will get its first new dimension in more than 14 years. Mojang has announced The Sift, coming to Minecraft in 2027. It will release on both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, according to IGN.

For a game built on exploration, that wait is striking. Dimensions are self-contained worlds inside Minecraft, separate from the main overworld where most players start. Each has its own look, blocks and dangers.

Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are the game's two main versions. Java is the original release for personal computer. Bedrock covers consoles, mobile and personal computer. Releasing on both at once means no large part of the player base is left waiting.

Minecraft gives players a vast, block-built overworld to shape as they choose. They mine for resources, craft tools and build everything from shelters to favourite cities. Dimensions add another layer to that loop, offering a trip elsewhere with different risks and rewards.

Mojang has announced a release year of 2027 without giving a full launch date. That is normal for a project this far out. Large games often get a year first, with a season or exact day to follow closer to launch.

The announcement was reported on 26 September 2026. That puts the launch more than a year away. The long lead gives Mojang time to test, polish and show more of what The Sift holds.

What makes this stand out is the timescale. Fourteen years is longer than many players have been playing. For them, this will be the first time they have seen Minecraft grow by a full world rather than by blocks, creatures or tweaks.

For fans, this means new ground to learn. A fresh dimension usually brings fresh materials to collect, new hazards to manage and new builds to plan. Players who enjoy starting from nothing will have a reason to do it all again.

For the community, this points to shared discovery. Friends often head in together, compare notes and post what they find. That joint exploration is part of why a first addition in over a decade matters to long-time players and newcomers alike.

Details remain limited to the name, the platforms and the year. More information will likely follow through Mojang's own channels as 2027 draws closer.
