Minecraft is getting a fourth dimension.

Mojang announced The Sift during Minecraft Live on 26 September, alongside the reveal of Minecraft Dungeons 2, as reported by Eurogamer. It is a new explorable world for the long-running block-building game, which lets players shape landscapes from cubes and share what they make.

The Sift will join the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The Overworld is the bright, open world where most play begins. The Nether and the End are separate spaces with their own terrain, creatures and risks, reached from inside the game through portals. A dimension, in plain terms, is a self-contained map with its own look and rules.

The Sift is the first new addition to that set since The End arrived in 2011. That is a long gap in a game that has otherwise grown through smaller updates. It explains why the announcement led the showcase.

Mojang described The Sift as bringing new biomes, mobs, and ways to play and explore. Biomes is the game's term for regions with their own landscape and mood. Mobs means creatures, from farm animals to hostile enemies.

It will launch in the base game on the Java and Bedrock editions in 2027. Those are the two live versions of Minecraft. Java runs on PC, while Bedrock supports consoles, mobile and PC and allows cross-platform play. The launch is dated only as 2027 for now, with no day or month given.

Players will see The Sift elsewhere first. It will appear in Minecraft Dungeons 2 before it comes to Minecraft itself. Minecraft Dungeons 2 is scheduled for release on 29 September 2026.

That order matters for anyone following the story. The spin-off gives an early look within days of the announcement. The full dimension arrives next year.

Minecraft Live September 2026 covered more than one world. Mojang also announced an ice caves drop, according to Minecraft. A drop is a focused update, and this one adds icy underground areas to find and explore.

There was news off screen too. Minecraft World will open at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London in 2027. It is a themed attraction built around the game, with rides, shops and places to meet characters.

For players, this means a busy stretch. Dungeons 2 lands on 29 September 2026. Then attention turns to 2027, with The Sift due on Java and Bedrock and the London attraction due to open.
