Diablo 4 seasons to continue after Diablo 5 launches, director says

Diablo 4 will keep getting new seasonal content after Diablo 5 launches.
Game director Brent Gibson confirmed the plan in comments reported by Video Games Chronicle. Seasons are limited-time updates. They add fresh stories, powers and loot to the action role-playing game.
Gibson said Blizzard plans to support those seasons for as long as players keep turning up for Diablo 4. No forced upgrade. Players who want to stay with an older game can do so.
That commitment follows the pattern set by Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. Blizzard still adds content to both of those older games. Gibson said the company has no plans to stop adding content to Diablo 4 either.
The message is continuity. Diablo 4 players will not be pushed to Diablo 5. Fans of Diablo 2 or Diablo 3 will not be pushed either. They can stay with their favourite game.
The comments build on what Gibson said at BlizzCon. In an interview there with PC Gamer, reported by Kotaku, he said: "We're all focused on [Diablo 4] seasons and getting to Diablo 5."
Blizzard has ended work on large paid expansions for Diablo 4. Gibson said there are no plans for additional expansions, according to a report published on 13 September 2026. The focus now is seasonal stories that lead towards Diablo 5. Blizzard News also published a Diablo IV: What's Next Panel Recap on 13 September 2026, featuring Gibson and content creator Rhykker.
Gibson described the shift away from expansions as liberating, as reported by TechRadar. He said Blizzard had completed the main Diablo 4 story. Small choices can still ripple outward, he said, and that butterfly effect lets writers take the narrative in many directions through seasons instead.
For fans, this means a clearer path. No new expansion to buy. Regular seasonal chapters to play. And an older game that is meant to keep running even when its successor arrives.
