Sam Esmail has left CAA after more than a decade with the agency.

The creator of Mr. Robot is now seeking new agency representation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Agents negotiate deals and find work. Managers guide career choices over the longer term.

Esmail joined CAA in 2015. That was the year Mr. Robot began its run on USA Network. He had previously been represented by ICM before that series launched.

He is not starting fresh behind the scenes. He remains with his managers at Anonymous Content and with his lawyer at McKuin Frankel while he looks for a new agency home.

Mr. Robot aired on USA Network from 2015 to 2019. That run lasted four seasons. It established Esmail as a writer, director and producer working across television and film.

Since then he has built a broad producing record. His executive producer credits — the producer who oversees a project creatively and financially — include Briarpatch, Homecoming, Gaslit, Angelyne and The Resort. Those television programmes span crime, drama and limited series.

He also wrote and directed Leave the World Behind for Netflix. The film starred Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke.

His next directing project is Panic Carefully, a thriller with Julia Roberts set up at Warner Bros. Production wrapped in March 2025. It is scheduled for a theatre release on 9 April 2027, after moving from February 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

For filmgoers, this means little changes on screen for now. The agency switch sits behind the camera, while Panic Carefully gives audiences the next clear date for his work.
