Netflix Packs October With East of Eden, Below and Animals
Netflix opens October with East of Eden, a seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel starring Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames. The limited series, meaning it tells one complete story across a set run of episodes, premieres on October 1. It was created by Zoe Kazan. The Hollywood Reporter
Pugh is joined by Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders. October 1 also brings Crazy Rich, Incredibly Broke and The Ramparts of Ice. The second season of The Ramparts of Ice will arrive with new episodes weekly from October 1 in Pacific Time, which is October 2 in Japan Standard Time. Netflix
The pace stays fast. Thriller limited series Below launches on October 8 and stars Josh Hartnett. Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Natasha Henstridge and Joshua Close also appear. It is one of two scripted limited series anchoring the first half of the month.
Film entry Animals follows on October 9. Ben Affleck stars, produces, co-writes and directs the film. Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington and Steven Yeun co-star. The Hollywood Reporter
The Diplomat returns for its fourth season on October 15. Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell lead the returning cast. Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn and Rory Kinnear are also back.
Documentary series, meaning non-fiction stories told across several episodes, are part of the month too. Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald, from Judd Apatow, launches on October 16. October also brings the third season of Nobody Wants This, a documentary series on Matthew Perry and a film from Romain Gavras.
The first weekend adds more choice. #Love premieres on October 2. Tyler Perry’s Doing Life also premieres on October 2. Both titles are listed among Netflix’s new releases for the month.
International titles fill out the calendar. The Swedish comedy film The Storm premieres globally on October 15. It will also play in selected theatres across Sweden. Netflix Korea’s mystery-horror series Dead-End Job premieres on October 30.
Spain gets a separate addition. Netflix has announced a collaboration with Filmin for a monthly collection of films and documentaries for members in Spain. The first collection, titled October Mysteries, became available on October 1. Netflix
For fans, this means a crowded watchlist in quick succession. A literary adaptation opens the month. A thriller, a star-led film and a returning political drama follow within two weeks.
