Amazon has renewed “Neagley” for Season 2. Frances Neagley is staying on the case, with Variety reporting the pickup as a scoop on Oct. 1.

The series is a spinoff of “Reacher”, meaning a new programme built around a character from that show. Season 1 launched on Prime Video on Sept. 16 with eight episodes. It arrived on the same day as the “Reacher” Season 4 finale.

The early audience was large. Amazon said Season 1 reached 40 million viewers in its first 13 days of availability, which made it the No. 4 most-viewed original series debut in Prime Video history. The company also said 52% of that viewing came from outside the United States, as reported by Variety.

Maria Sten leads the series as Frances Neagley. In the story, Neagley was Jack Reacher’s protege in the Army and now works as a private investigator in Chicago. She was a member of the 110 Special Investigators, the Army unit at the centre of much of Reacher’s backstory.

Season 1 follows her search for justice after a close friend from her past is killed in a suspicious accident. The regular cast alongside Sten included Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro and Damon Herriman. “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson appeared in a guest role, meaning a short appearance across limited episodes rather than as a series regular.

Behind the camera, Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton serve as writers, executive producers and co-showrunners, the joint heads who organise the writers’ room and day-to-day production. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. It is based on the character first featured in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels.

The order dates back to Oct. 1, 2024, when Prime Video announced a “Reacher” spinoff starring Sten. It was unveiled by then head of Amazon MGM Studios Jennifer Salke at the Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers event in London under the working title The Untitled Neagley Project. The plan at the time was for an exclusive launch on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

For viewers, this means more of Neagley’s Chicago operation. That is fast. A renewal only 15 days after launch keeps a writers’ room and a crew of more than a hundred on a story that gets finished rather than cut short.
