Author Casey Sherman has teamed with Midnight Lute Productions on a book and feature film project titled Vegas Strong, about the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas on 1 October 2017. Deadline reported the partnership as an exclusive on 1 October 2026, nine years after the attack.

The project will centre on survivors, first responders, families of victims and other community members whose lives were changed by the shooting. The focus is on personal accounts rather than the gunman. It is planned as both a non-fiction book and a full-length film for cinemas.

The film is being developed to weave those personal stories together with the inaugural season of the Vegas Golden Knights. The team began play in the National Hockey League in the autumn of 2017 as an expansion side, a new club joining the league. The book will devote several chapters to the club and its part in bringing Las Vegas together after the shooting.

Sherman has a long connection to the survivors. In 2018, he hosted more than 40 shooting survivors and family members of victims on a healing cruise in Germany.

The new project follows a similar path to his earlier work. Sherman co-wrote Boston Strong with Dave Wedge about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. That book was adapted into the 2016 film Patriots Day, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Bacon.

Sherman is a true-crime author based in Marshfield, Massachusetts. His other books include Murder in Hollywood, about actress Lana Turner and the death of her boyfriend. In March 2024 he expanded his representation with the agency UTA to cover all areas of his work.
