Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux get a free next-generation update this October. The PC version is released on 22 October 2026, with consoles to follow on 29 October 2026, Deep Silver. If you already own either game, you pay nothing extra.

The update is free for existing owners. On PC that covers Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Store and GOG. On console the 29 October release is for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Plaion.

It is not a full remaster or remake. The original experience and aesthetic are preserved. The work focuses on sharper presentation and smoother playback on current machines.

All platforms get 4K textures, meaning far more detailed surfaces, characters and environments. Native support arrives for PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X/S, Eurogamer. Console players can choose native 4K at 60 frames per second, a measure of motion smoothness, or upscaled 4K at 120 frames per second on compatible displays.

There is platform-specific help as well. PS5 Pro gets PSSR support, Sony's image upscaling that rebuilds a lower-resolution picture for a 4K screen. Xbox Series X gets TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing, techniques that lift sharpness and smooth jagged edges.

PC players get DLSS support, Nvidia's upscaling system that raises frame rates while holding image quality. Paired with the new textures, it should help two older games sit more comfortably on modern monitors and graphics cards. No second purchase is needed if the Redux games are already in your library.

The news arrives as the Metro series passes 50 million copies sold worldwide. That total covers the full series to date. It is a large audience for a series built around tense survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro.

The same announcement looks forward. Metro 2039 is slated for release on 4 February. No further details were included in the verified materials.

For returning players, this means the same stories with a cleaner image and faster options. New players on current consoles get versions built for their hardware rather than older code running in compatibility mode. Downloads arrive through the usual storefronts, with PC first and consoles a week later.
