Harlan Coben's Final Twist is back with a bigger second season, starting with a murder case its host calls outright wild.

Season 2 runs for 12 episodes, up from five in Season 1, and opens Monday, Oct. 5 from 10:00 to 11:00 PM, ET/PT on the CBS Television Network, with episodes also on Paramount+, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The premiere is titled "Betsy's Trust" and centres on the Betsy Faria murder case. Coben, who serves as host and narrator, told the Reporter the first episode is "bonkers" and "so crazy".

Coben is best known as a novelist with more than 100 million books sold. Final Twist is his true-crime programme, meaning it revisits real-life cases rather than fictional stories. He said the production team is led by Susan Zirinsky and Jeff Zimbalist.

So how are the cases chosen? Variety comes first. Coben said he looks for a mix of stories with twists and turns that keep shifting as new facts emerge.

That approach shapes the new run. Season 2 includes two cases that took years to solve and, in Coben's account, would not have been solved without persistent parents — a father in one case and a mother in the other. Another featured case involves a couple found murdered in their home, with the investigation leading into social media and a cyberbullying conflict, according to HarlanCoben.com.

Viewers will need to keep an eye on the slot. CBS lists the programme on Mondays at 10:00-11:00 PM for the autumn run, with an episode titled "Who Killed Joy?" set for Oct. 12 at 10:00 p.m., according to Paramount Press Express. Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13, original episodes are listed to air Tuesdays at 8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT.

What makes this stand out for fans is the scale. Twelve episodes gives the team room to range across very different crimes while staying with Coben's familiar interest in late turns. For anyone new to the show, each hour is built to be self-contained.

In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Coben also discussed how his onscreen work has evolved alongside his books. The message for Season 2 is simple. More cases. More turns. Same host to walk viewers through them.
