Auckland quintet Awning has signed to Los Angeles label Winspear and released a new single, “Little Green Book”, to mark the deal.

Winspear announced the signing on 5 October in an Instagram post, and the news was reported more widely on 7 October Billboard. The single arrived alongside the announcement as the band’s first music under the new agreement. A label signing of this kind covers how future releases are put out and promoted.

“Little Green Book” was recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, the studio owned by Neil Finn, and produced by De Sevens Billboard. A producer shapes the sound of a finished track, working with the band on arrangement and recording. A single, in industry terms, is a standalone song release intended to introduce a longer campaign.

Awning formed in 2023. Vocalist Christian Dimick started the band with Riley Noonan, Damin McCabe, Ethan Broughtan and Eli Chamberlain Billboard. The five musicians are based in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city and the centre of much of its guitar music scene. The line-up has stayed as a quintet since its formation.

The group released a self-titled EP in 2025. An EP, or extended play, is a short record with more songs than a single but fewer than a full album. For a young alternative rock band — guitar-led music outside the mainstream pop lane — an EP is often the first substantial release, used to establish a live set and a recorded identity.

What makes this stand out is geography. Awning is Winspear’s first signing from Aotearoa/New Zealand Billboard. It is the Los Angeles label’s second international signing, following Adelaide band Swapmeet, who joined the roster earlier in 2026. The sequence puts two Australasian guitar bands on an American independent label’s books within the same year.

The rollout unfolded over three days. Winspear tagged the band’s Instagram account as @awning_band in its 5 October announcement Winspear on Instagram. Coverage followed on 6 October, which described Awning as a five-member band based in Auckland The Line of Best Fit, before further reporting on 7 October.

For fans, this means a clear starting point. There is one new song out now, made in Auckland with a named producer. The next steps — further releases, touring and how the catalogue is handled — sit with the new label relationship. For now, the news is simple. A five-piece from Auckland has an American label home.
