Margaret White has powers too.

That is the twist in 'AP Physics', the Season 1 finale of Mike Flanagan's Carrie on Prime Video, with all episodes now available to stream, according to Deadline. Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan, is revealed to be telekinetic, meaning she can move objects with her mind, just like her daughter.

The reveal reframes the whole season. The finale establishes that the TK gene behind Carrie's powers is hereditary, passed down through her family line.

Sloyan told Deadline the twist helped anchor Margaret's choices across the season, because Margaret knows telekinesis is real. She said Flanagan's point of view for the show is that Margaret and Carrie love each other, even as fear and faith pull them apart.

The series follows misfit high-schooler Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell, according to Amazon MGM Studios. Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell and Alison Thornton plays Chris Hargensen, per the studio's cast list. The adaptation keeps the famous bloody prom scene, as reported by Yahoo.

It is a new take on a long-lived role. Piper Laurie originated Margaret White on screen in the 1976 film. Flanagan has said Sloyan was "born to play" the part, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The casting continues a long working relationship. Sloyan previously played Bev Keane in Flanagan's Midnight Mass in 2021. Her other credits with the writer-director include The Haunting of Hill House, Hush and The Life of Chuck.

What makes this stand out for fans is how it changes Margaret. She is no longer just the mother reacting in horror to Carrie's abilities. She has lived with the same secret.

Sloyan is staying in Flanagan's world. She has a small role in his next cinema film, The Exorcist: Martyrs, and described it as the scariest thing she has seen him make. The film is listed by Universal Pictures for release only in theatres on March 12, 2027.
