Eric Stonestreet will be back as Al Walker, a.k.a. Rapunzel, in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

The news was announced at the show's New York Comic Con panel, held to mark 20 years of the Dexter franchise, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. It confirms a Season 1 guest villain will carry over into the next chapter. Short and direct. The return keeps Stonestreet inside the Showtime saga for another run.

The panel filled the stage with past and present. Stars Michael C. Hall, Uma Thurman, James Remar, Jack Alcott, Bokeem Woodbine and Krysten Ritter appeared alongside showrunner Clyde Phillips, the writer-producer in overall charge of the series, plus Scott Reynolds and Marcos Siega. Thurman was making her first appearance at New York Comic Con. The event mixed franchise veterans with Resurrection newcomers, and the anniversary gave it extra weight.

Stonestreet's road back took two decades. He first auditioned for the original Dexter Season 1. Phillips turned him down. That same producer is now the showrunner inviting him back for Season 2. It is a full-circle casting story, told on stage in New York.

Ritter could be next. Her return was teased at the same panel, after she guest-starred in Season 1 as Mia. A guest star, meaning an actor hired for a short run rather than as a series regular, can still define a season. Season 1 leaned on that pattern for its killers. Neil Patrick Harris appeared as Lowell and David Dastmalchian as Gareth, according to Paramount Press Express. Their short runs helped stock the new season with fresh faces.

Resurrection is the latest chapter on Paramount+ with Showtime. It opened with a two-episode premiere on Friday, 11 July, after being lined up for summer 2025. Paramount then released first-look images from Season Two in July 2026, early stills put out to preview new episodes. The images arrived months before the New York announcement, building a slow bridge between seasons.

What makes this stand out is continuity. A killer codenamed Rapunzel does not vanish after one year. For viewers, that means unfinished business heading into Season 2, with Ritter's Mia waiting in the wings.
