Sterling K. Brown joins Hanks in Mets baseball drama The Comebacker

Sterling K. Brown has joined Tom Hanks and Callum Turner in The Comebacker, Sony Pictures' baseball drama, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 8 October 2026.
Brown will play the team manager. Hanks plays a New York Mets pitching coach. Turner plays his pitcher, who is hit by a line drive while on the mound.
A line drive is a ball hit hard and flat, straight back towards the pitcher. That injury sets the story in motion. Amy Madigan plays the team owner and Patricia Clarkson plays the coach's wife, filling out the central group announced so far.
Marielle Heller directs the film. She also wrote the adaptation, which is based on a short story by Dave Eggers. Sony is making the film with the involvement of Major League Baseball and the Mets, giving it direct access to the league and the club.
Gary Goetzman will produce for Playtone, the production company run by Hanks, alongside Heller and Leah Holzer for Defiant By Nature, Heller's production organisation. Working Barn and Charles Miller will serve as executive producers, a credit that usually means backing and oversight rather than day-to-day filming. The producing line-up was detailed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Brown arrives as a long-time favourite with television viewers. He stars in and executive produces the Hulu series Paradise, which was recently renewed for a third season. He earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for American Fiction. He also spent six seasons as Randall Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, Variety reported.
What makes this stand out is the dugout taking shape. A coach, a manager, an owner and a pitcher give Heller four clear points of view on recovery, work and family.
