Marvel closed its Thursday New York Comic Con panel with a surprise screening of the first full episode of VisionQuest, six days before the series premieres on Disney+ on Oct. 14.

The screening capped the “Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation” panel on Thursday, Oct. 8. The session was co-hosted by Brandon Davis with Marvel television and animation chief Brad Winderbaum, according to Variety. The panel had been listed in advance in Marvel’s New York Comic Con 2026 schedule, published on Sept. 30, according to Marvel.

Press coverage was held back until the room saw it. Marvel’s embargo on VisionQuest, meaning reporters could not publish details until a set time, lifted at 5:45pm ET as the panel ended, according to Variety.

The episode centres on Paul Bettany as Vision, the android hero first introduced in the films and last seen in live action in WandaVision. It is Bettany’s first live-action return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the interconnected films and series organised by Marvel Studios, since that series. In VisionQuest he appears in both android and human form, according to Variety.

The screening also confirmed a line-up built around familiar voices from Marvel’s past. James Spader returns as Ultron, the rogue artificial intelligence from Avengers: Age of Ultron. James D’Arcy plays J.A.R.V.I.S., Emily Hampshire plays E.D.I.T.H. and Orla Brady plays F.R.I.D.A.Y., the AI systems previously heard in Iron Man and Avengers films. T’Nia Miller plays Jocasta, another artificial being from Marvel comics.

Two newer faces join them. Ruaridh Mollica plays the grown-up version of Tommy Maximoff, one of Wanda Maximoff and Vision’s sons, and Lauren Morais plays Lisa Molinari, according to Variety.

Marvel followed the panel with its own account of the event, publishing first-party coverage titled “‘VisionQuest’ Surprises NYCC with First Episode Screening” on marvel.com, according to Marvel.

For fans, this means a short wait. The Comic Con audience saw episode one first. Everyone else gets it on Oct. 14 on Disney+.
