Thigh-high rubber boots tied with oversize bows walked in Paris as mid-priced fashion labels bet on handbags, shoes and heritage stories to steady sales.

The approach defined much of the contemporary offer at Paris Fashion Week for spring 2027. Contemporary, the mid-priced segment between high street and luxury, leaned into history, art and cultural partnerships for point of difference while keeping the clothes themselves wearable and commercial, according to WWD.

The boots were rubber. The bows were huge. They were the standout from Aigle by Setchu, the pairing of Aigle, the French brand known for outdoor clothing and rubber boots, with Setchu, the label designed by Satoshi Kuwata.

Kuwata brought fashion-forward details to Aigle’s functional wardrobe in what was his second collection for the brand. He tested prototypes himself on a fishing trip to Greenland in cold and wet conditions. The range also introduced messenger bags in an expanded size range.

Claudie Pierlot, the French contemporary label, took a different route to the same commercial goal. It held its Paris presentation inside its new store, a space conceived as a chic summer house rather than a conventional shop.

The brand introduced a new bag shape in two sizes. Chief executive Anne Cottin said the vision is rooted in founder Claudie Pierlot and described it as more assertive femininity. The company plans to roll the summer-house store concept out to further flagship locations in Europe.

Bags did a lot of heavy lifting across the week. Several contemporary labels introduced new handbag styles or added multiple sizes, leaning on handbags and shoes with accessible luxury pricing to stabilise sales. Accessible luxury here means priced below top luxury but above high street, with higher margins for the brand.

Footwear and accessories labels were prominent in the spring 2027 presentations, including Bulgari, the Italian jewellery house, alongside footwear-focused names Christen, Jude, Aeyde and Alohas, according to WWD. Off the runway, members of Katseye, the global girl group, including Daniela Avanzini and Yoonchae Jeong, carried rare Louis Vuitton x Singer bags in Paris. Louis Vuitton is the French luxury house.

Heat shaped how it all looked on the street. Paris stayed warm into October, and guests opted for lighter clothing, according to Reuters.

What makes this stand out is the maths behind the spectacle. Ready-to-wear, clothes made in standard sizes rather than made to order, creates the image. Bags and shoes in more reachable prices pay for it.
