Zee 5 Global will premiere Sumo Didi exclusively on October 23, after releasing the full trailer for its streaming launch.

The trailer reveal was reported as an exclusive by Deadline, which carries first word of the streaming date. An exclusive premiere here means a single home for streaming at launch. Viewers who want to watch on streaming will find it on Zee 5 Global.

Sumo Didi is a Hindi-language film built as a sports biopic, meaning a drama based on the life of a real athlete. Its subject is Hetal Dave, recognised as India's first professional female sumo wrestler. Sumo is a Japanese wrestling form with centuries of ritual and strict ranks. Dave's path into it gives the film its central drive, from training in India to competition abroad.

Shriyam Bhagnani leads the cast in the titular role, meaning she plays the Didi of the title. Chaitnya Sharma stars alongside her as a key supporting lead. Their names front a story that rests on one central performance and a close circle around it.

The film was directed by Jayant Rohatgi. It was produced by three companies working together, Jio Studios, Fresh Lime Films and MA+TH Entertainment Networks. That kind of multi-company backing is common for a biopic that shoots across countries and needs both studio scale and local production support.

The wider ensemble includes Anubha Fatehpuriya, Nitesh Pandey, Raghav Dhir and Meenal Kapoor. The cameras rolled in three distinct locations. The production shot on location in Japan, Kolkata and Mumbai, moving between Dave's home ground and the birthplace of sumo.

Sumo Didi first reached audiences with a theatrical release in 2023, meaning a run in cinemas before streaming. It then continued on the festival circuit in 2024. That run included screenings at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival, two established showcases where films meet international programmers and audiences.

For fans, this means a clear next step. A cinema run ends. A festival run ends. Now the film moves to a phone, laptop or television screen from October 23. No extra ticket is needed beyond the streaming subscription.
