Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused, Deadline reported on 13 October 2026.

DC Studios, the company making the film, said director Matt Reeves is taking time to focus on a family matter. Reeves is the director of the sequel. The studio said he has its full support and it looks forward to continuing the journey soon.

A family matter is personal, and studios often leave detail there. The brief statement kept the focus on backing Reeves. No replacement director has been named, and none was suggested.

The first word of the pause came from Robert Pattinson, the actor who plays Batman. He spoke to Official Pop Drop during interviews for Primetime, another project he is promoting. “We’re pausing for a little bit, and then we’re going to figure it all out,” he said of the Batman sequel, according to Deadline. His comment framed the break as short.

Pattinson leads a returning core. He is back as Batman, the masked figure at the centre of the story. Andy Serkis is back as Alfred, the steady aide who works alongside him, and Colin Farrell is back as the Penguin, the powerful Gotham villain. Their return keeps familiar faces in place for the next chapter.

The next chapter also brings a wave of newcomers. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry are joining the ensemble. Jayme Lawson joins as well, along with Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch, Deadline reported. Together, the seven additions broaden the cast around the central trio.

What makes this stand out is the shape of the cast. A returning centre comes first. New names follow to fill out fresh stories. That pattern fits here, with three familiar performers joined by seven newcomers.

The film remains scheduled for release on 18 February 2028. That date is the public marker on the cinema calendar, and no new date has been announced. Pauses of this kind stop day-to-day shooting while the wider plan stays in place. Sets, scripts and deals wait until work resumes.

For fans, this means a short hold. The line-up is set. The director remains in place. The story will move forward once Reeves is ready to return.
