Fox has released the first full-length trailer for its new Baywatch, with the lifeguard drama set to premiere in January on Fox.

The trailer arrived on 13 October, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It is a reboot, meaning a new version of an earlier series, and follows a run of short teasers released over the summer and early October.

Stephen Amell leads the cast as Hobie Buchannon. Hobie is now a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his father Mitch. Mitch Buchannon was played by David Hasselhoff in the original series.

Family is central to the setup. Jessica Belkin plays Charlie Vale, Hobie’s daughter, who arrives to continue the Buchannon lifeguard legacy. The early teaser footage showed Hobie, Charlie and Luke sprinting and leaping across the sand, as previously noted by Variety.

The wider rescue team includes Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck and Brooks Nader. Beck plays a lifeguard named Luke. Four additional teaser promos spotlighting Amell, Belkin and Livvy Dunne were released in early October, as reported by Deadline.

Dunne will appear in a recurring role. So will David Chokachi, who was a regular in the original Baywatch. No episode count has been confirmed in the reports to date.

Music gives long-time viewers a clear link back. The full trailer is set to “I’m Always Here,” the theme from the original show. Filming is taking place on Venice Beach and other locations around Los Angeles.

Behind the camera, the series comes from Fox Entertainment Studios and Fremantle. Matt Nix is an executive producer, a senior role overseeing the creative direction of the show. McG is also an executive producer and directed the series premiere.

Original Baywatch producers Michael Berk, Greg Bonann and Doug Schwartz are executive producers on the update, alongside Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.

For fans, this means the names have changed but the job has not. A new Buchannon generation is on tower duty, and the January launch will decide where the show sits in Fox’s midseason schedule.
