Mike Flanagan rewrote the finale of Prime Video's Carrie to make room for one song.

The creator told Deadline he reworked episode 8, "AP Physics", after hearing "Shy Girl" by Haute & Freddy so the track could sit in a key scene. It is the closing episode of the eight-part series. All eight episodes are available to stream.

Carrie is Prime Video's television adaptation of Stephen King's novel Carrie, centred on Carrie White, a telekinetic teenager, meaning she can move objects with her mind, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie, Josie Totah plays Tina and Samantha Sloyan plays Margaret, Carrie's mother. Flanagan set out those casting and story details in his interview on the show's music.

He heard it early. Flanagan said Haute & Freddy became the musical identity of the series very early on, after he heard "Shy Girl" before the band's album was released. That pre-release album then became the foundation of Carrie's musical score. He described the duo as the genetic identity of the sound of the show.

The connection is also written into the story. Carrie finds Tina's Haute & Freddy T-shirt in the school's lost-and-found and upcycles it into her own creation. Flanagan said he also wrote lyrics from Lana Del Rey's "A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd" directly into the script, while other artists featured in the series came in organically through production and post-production.

The music detail adds to recent explanations of the ending. Inverse published an exclusive interview in which Flanagan explains why he changed the ending in "AP Physics". TIME has also published an explainer of the finale.

For viewers, this means the band runs through more than one scene. The T-shirt, the score and the rewritten finale all trace back to the same discovery.
