Fat Boy Swim musical to tour Scotland in early 2027

Visible Fictions will tour a new musical version of Fat Boy Swim across Scotland in January and February 2027.
The production adapts Cathy Forde's novel for the stage, meaning the book has been reshaped with songs and live performance in mind. It will visit eight venues over nine days, as reported by WhatsOnStage.
Forde has written the book and lyrics herself. Music is by Michael John McCarthy, with additional lyrics, and Dougie Irvine directs.
The story centres on Jimmy. He is at a turning point in his life. He is struggling with his weight, bullying at school and relationships at home, according to listing information from Aberdeen Performing Arts.
The tour opens at Eastwood Park Theatre in Giffnock on 28 January 2027. It then plays Perth Theatre on 29 January and The Beacon Studio in Greenock on 30 January.
It continues to Eden Court in Inverness on 1 February and The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen on 2 February. The run then heads to Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling on 3 February, The Byre Theatre in St Andrews on 4 February and Assembly Roxy in Edinburgh on 5 February.
The Stirling date is listed as Wednesday 3 February at 7:30pm, according to Macrobert Arts Centre.
What makes this stand out is the team. The original novelist is adapting her own work. McCarthy and Irvine both bring long experience of making music-led theatre in Scotland. For audiences, this means eight chances to catch a brand-new show close to home.
