John Mayer Teases New Song for October 23 With Handcuffed Clip

John Mayer has pointed to October 23 for new music, posting a short handcuffed clip on October 15 with the line “I’ll run away with you… October 23.”
The tease first appeared as an Instagram Reel on October 15, and Mayer also shared it to X late that night and to his official Facebook page, according to those posts. The Reel had drawn 232,000 likes and 8,337 comments at the time of reporting. Instagram
The clip is wordless. It shows Mayer handcuffed to a woman seen only from the neck down, dressed in a leather jacket and jeans. It ends with the pair linking little fingers. Billboard
The sound carries the hint. A shuffling beat and synth pattern run under the video, with Mayer’s blues-based guitar picking entering at the end.
If October 23 brings a single, it would end a long gap in solo releases. Mayer has not put out new solo music since 2021, when he released Sob Rock, his eighth studio album.
Mayer has already told fans to expect something this year. Speaking in August on SiriusXM’s One on One with Andy Cohen, he said he had mixed his first single in Cohen’s bedroom and that a new single was definitely coming this year.
He has stayed active as a collaborator and studio owner in the meantime. He appeared on Lainey Wilson’s single “Phone, Keys, Wallet,” which was recorded at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles. Mayer bought and renovated that studio with director and producer McG.
Live dates are also set well ahead. Mayer is scheduled to play 21 shows at Sphere in Las Vegas from April 8 to June 12, 2027. The run is organised around three formats: solo, full-band and trio shows.
No title, tracklist or album details have been confirmed. For now, the date in the caption is doing the work.
