Gaydar host Anania to front late-night variety show on Tubi

Anania, the creator and host of the social media series Gaydar, will host a late-night variety programme on Tubi.
The Anania Show is set to stream on 23 November, according to Variety. The booking moves Anania from short-form interviews to late night. That slot usually means longer episodes built around chat, comedy and performance.
Anania will also executive produce the programme, meaning a senior creative and decision-making role behind the camera as well as in front of it. The other executive producers are Keisha Zollar, Morgan DeFiore and Hannah Ceisler. The show is created in partnership with Palette Media.
Gaydar is the calling card. Filmed in New York City, it is a person-on-the-street interview show where Anania stops members of the public alongside celebrity guests to quiz them about queer culture. The format is fast and direct. It has built an audience of nearly 1 million followers across TikTok and Instagram.
Anania is an actor, musician and drag performer, according to Them. On Gaydar, the signature game is a quick round of questions designed to sort guests into three categories: “gay, straight, or a homophobe.” It is played for laughs. It also tests how well guests know queer references.
For viewers, this means a familiar host in a larger frame. A street clip lasts minutes. A late-night variety show allows longer interviews, recurring segments and musical moments. Details of the episode count and guests have not been announced.
The path is now a well-worn one. Creators build a following with a repeatable social format, then take that character and audience to a commissioned show, meaning a programme ordered by a platform. Here the order comes from Tubi. The November date puts the launch five weeks after the announcement.
