Tate McRae's "Housewife" is the fans' choice for this week's best new music. It took 51% of the vote in Billboard's new-music poll, with the result confirmed on Sunday, Oct. 18. The win gave McRae more than half of all votes cast from readers choosing among the week's new releases.

Billboard published the poll on Friday, Oct. 16, according to Billboard. Readers then voted through the weekend until closing time on Sunday. By that deadline, "Housewife" held a clear lead at 51%, a majority share that means one in every two voters picked the McRae single.

Second place went to the "Expectations" remix from Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan. The collaboration drew nearly 35% of the vote. That left it about 16 percentage points behind McRae when voting closed, with the two leading songs accounting for the large majority of ballots.

The poll result landed on a high-visibility night for McRae. She was slated to perform "Housewife" at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on Sunday night, Oct. 18. The booking put the new single on a televised runway stage in the same weekend that fans were voting for it. For a new release, that kind of scheduling puts the studio version and the first major live performance within days of each other.

"Housewife" is expected to appear on McRae's upcoming fourth studio album. A studio album is a full-length collection of new recordings released as one package, distinct from a single or an EP. Billboard described the single on Oct. 16 as the launch of her new era, the industry term for the start of a fresh album cycle with new music, visuals and live dates.

McRae came into the release with recent industry recognition behind her. In 2026, she was named Hitmaker at Billboard Women in Music, the company's annual event honouring women working across the music business. That credit was listed on her Billboard artist page.

For fans following the rollout, the weekend offered two things at once: an early show of support in the vote, and a first major stage outing for the song on Sunday night.
