Yaga lands on AMC+ on Friday, Oct. 23. The series is a genre-bending thriller from AMC+ and Crave, built around a missing-person investigation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It was created by Kat Sandler. She adapted it from her own theatre play for television. It is made as a half-hour drama, meaning each episode runs in a 30-minute slot.

The cast is led by Carrie-Anne Moss, Clark Backo, Noah Reid, Hudson Williams and Sheila McCarthy. Williams carries two parts in the ensemble. Moss, Backo and Reid lead the investigation story.

Williams plays Henry, aged 22. Henry is the scion, meaning heir, of a fish processing magnate and he disappears. Williams also plays Logan, Henry’s roommate.

The search is organised around two investigators. Backo plays Carson, a Whittock PD detective assigned to the missing-person case. Reid plays Rapp, a private investigator sent by Henry’s family, while Moss plays Katherine, a biology professor.

The story is a reinterpretation of the Slavic folklore tale of Baba Yaga. That folk figure is the Slavic witch at the centre of many old stories. The series has been described as a timely take on female rage, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and as a wickedly dark and feminist take on Baba Yaga, according to Deadline.

AMC+ and Crave have released a new trailer for the series. The trailer arrived ahead of the October launch. The October date gives viewers in the United States a clear slot for the premiere on AMC+.

For fans, this means one disappearance told from several sides. One actor plays both the missing man and his roommate. Two investigators follow the same case from different directions, with a scientist caught in the middle.
