Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a free update built around the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Developer CD Projekt Red is releasing the update, version 2.5, on 22 October 2026, timed to coincide with the anime's Netflix release, according to Video Games Chronicle.

The update is due on 22 October for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow. The company has not, in the material reported so far, given a date for it.

The headline addition is Clampdown, a new side quest. Side quests are optional missions outside the main story. Clampdown is set before the events of the anime, and it unlocks after players finish The Heist and two gigs, the game's name for side jobs, for a character called Wakako. Players who complete it can also collect a five-piece gear set based on King, a character from the anime.

Other additions include:

  • HKGN 102.0 FM, a radio station playing tracks from the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series
  • Cyberwear customisation at five Glamdocs shops, where players can change their implants (cyberware is the game's term for its body upgrades)
  • Dual-wielding perks, which let players hold and use a weapon in each hand
  • Cross-platform mod support, so player-made add-ons, known as mods, can be shared across versions
  • Night City Tours

CD Projekt Red announced the update on its cyberpunk.net site. It also scheduled a REDstreams livestream, a preview broadcast, for 21 October 2026 at 5 PM CEST. The stream is titled "Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) is coming!"

The update is free, according to the company's announcement. Video Games Chronicle noted that it arrives nearly two years after CD Projekt called the game's previous update its "last big update."

The developer also gave sales figures. According to CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 40 million copies worldwide. Its expansion, Phantom Liberty, a paid story add-on, has sold 15 million copies.

For players who already own the game, the update is the newest reason to return to Night City. The Edgerunners link is the clearest, with a new mission, a new radio station and a new gear set all tied to the anime that many fans watched first.
