Prime Video Renews Stephen King's Carrie for Season 2

Prime Video Renews Stephen King's Carrie for Season 2
Prime Video has ordered a second season of Carrie, the Stephen King story adapted by Mike Flanagan. The renewal came two weeks after the first season arrived on the streamer, according to Deadline.
A renewal means the platform has committed to making more episodes of a show. For the people who finished season one, it means the story keeps going.
The first season has eight episodes and was released on 7 October. Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White and is set to return for the new season. Flanagan and Stephen King are both executive producers.
Flanagan has said he envisioned the story as a three-season arc. Season two is the next step in that plan.
The first season did not follow the ending of King's 1974 novel. Instead, it closed on a cliffhanger. Carrie survives and leaves town in her friend Emaline's car.
Amazon MGM Studios lists Carrie as an Original Series, the company's term for shows made for its own streaming service. The series also reached the top of Prime Video's weekly global TV series rankings, where it hit number one in more than 105 countries, according to Deadline.
Those rankings measure how many people watch a title on the platform in a given week. A show reaching number one in that chart means it drew more viewing than anything else on Prime Video that week. It does not say how many people watched in total, and the rankings are not the same as a count of subscribers.
The quick turnaround is the detail to watch here. Many shows wait months, sometimes longer, before a decision on whether they will continue. For Carrie, the decision came fourteen days after launch.
For viewers, the next question is when season two will reach the screen. The renewal gives the story its next chapter, and the cliffhanger from season one is now the place where that chapter begins.
