Tate McRae's 'Housewife' Debuts at No. 1 in Australia

Tate McRae's new single "Housewife" has debuted at No. 1 on Australia's ARIA Singles Chart, the country's official weekly ranking of songs, published on Friday 23 October 2026. Billboard reported the result. It is McRae's first No. 1 single in Australia and her sixth top 10 entry on the singles chart.
The single was released through RCA, a label within Sony Music. It is taken from her fourth album, which has not yet been released. McRae's previous single "Greedy" peaked at No. 2 in Australia in 2023, and Sony Music Canada says "Greedy" has been certified 5x Platinum. A certification is an industry award for sales, and each Platinum level marks a set number of units sold, so 5x Platinum means five times that threshold.
On the albums chart, the Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. took the top spot with "Dopamine Chamber". It is the group's fifth studio album, meaning a collection of newly recorded songs rather than a live or compilation release. It is also their first No. 1 album in Australia. ARIA credited both the Fontaines D.C. album and McRae's single with first chart-toppers for each artist.
Further down the albums chart, Zach Bryan's EP "Young Manhood And Other Donatable Organs" debuted at No. 4. The Avalanches' "No Bad Memories" entered at No. 5. The Rubens' "Group Therapy" landed at No. 6, which is the band's sixth consecutive top 10 album.
The singles chart had a sharp climb as well. Olivia Rodrigo's "Expectations" jumped from No. 78 to No. 2 after the release of a version featuring Chappell Roan. Justice's "Flower In A Hurricane", with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, debuted at No. 43.
Chart positions are a weekly snapshot, so the ranking can shift from one Friday to the next. For now, McRae and Fontaines D.C. share the week's first-place news in Australia, and Rodrigo's rise shows how a new version of a song can send it back up the chart.
