About half of the quest team working on Cyberpunk 2 are former modders, according to Paweł Sasko, the sequel's associate director. Video Games Chronicle reported his remarks.

Sasko made the comments during a REDstreams presentation about the version 2.5 update for Cyberpunk 2077. He said the former modders had previously made mods for The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3, both earlier games from CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the series.

Mods, short for modifications, are add-ons made by players that change or extend a game. The version 2.5 update introduces cross-platform mod support. PC and console players can browse and install player-made mods directly inside the game.

CD Projekt Red has a team in Boston working on Cyberpunk 2, according to a studio blog post. The post said a developer who helped create the Judy questline in Cyberpunk 2077 now works on Cyberpunk 2 from that office. A questline is a connected run of story missions that follows one character's storyline.

The two threads are separate facts, but they point the same way. The studio has brought in people with a record of building content for its earlier games, and Sasko's comments put that hiring pattern in the spotlight.

For players, the update is the most immediate change. Mods that once took some setup can now be found and installed without leaving the game. For people who make mods, the hiring news is a reminder that the hobby can lead to a job in the industry.

Cyberpunk 2 has been announced, and the studio has said it is working on it.
