Jamie Miller's "Babydoll" Takes No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart

Cardiff singer Jamie Miller has reached No. 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart dated 23 October 2026, Billboard reported. His song "Babydoll" edged out Tate McRae's "Housewife", which came second. The Official Singles Chart ranks the most popular songs in the UK each week.
The win makes Miller the first Welsh artist to top the chart in 15 years. The last was Sian Evans, who featured on DJ Fresh's "Louder" in 2011. He is also the first Welsh solo male artist to reach No. 1 in 41 years. The last one was Shakin' Stevens, whose "Merry Christmas Everyone" was top of the chart in 1985.
"Babydoll" came out on 7 August 2026 through Island EMI Records. The Official Charts Company describes it as a blend of contemporary pop with Motown, soul and R&B. The song was only just breaking into the UK Top 40 in September. It reached No. 1 on the Official Trending Chart on 22 September, a separate ranking that tracks songs gaining momentum.
The climb to the top spot was close. In a midweek chart update on 4 October, "Babydoll" was in a three-way battle with Taylor Swift and Sienna Spiro for No. 1. The chart counts both downloads and streams, so each purchase and play in the counting week feeds into the position.
Miller's route to this point has not been smooth. He told the BBC that he was close to quitting music at the start of 2026. He grew up in Pontprennau, on the outskirts of Cardiff, where he was born.
In the final stretch, Miller asked fans to help. On 22 October he urged them to download "Babydoll" on iTunes before an 11pm deadline, in a social media post asking whether a Welsh boy could take home the UK No. 1. He thanked supporters in a statement to the Official Charts Company after the result was announced.
For the people who made the record, a chart week is a clear finish line. Every download counted in that window helped put a Welsh singer back at the top of the UK chart for the first time in more than a decade.
