A YouTuber called Dantics has posted what he says are the details of a cancelled Mass Effect game, and the claims paint a very different galaxy from the one players know. BioWare and EA have not commented.

Dantics shared the alleged details in a lengthy post on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. He calls the project Mass Effect Universe. PC Gamer reported on the claims on 23 October 2026 and refers to the game as Mass Effect 5.

According to Dantics, the story would have been set more than 600 years after the Reaper War, the conflict at the heart of the original trilogy. Rather than another invasion, the plot would have centred on a "galactic Cold War" between three major factions. Humanity, the Krogan and the Batarians would have allied, the Council races would have formed their own alliance, and the Geth, the machine people of the series, would have risen as a third superpower. He described the game as a "spy RPG", a role-playing game built around espionage.

The player would have controlled a customisable N7 agent, a special operative with cutting-edge implanted technology. Dantics said the agent could hack systems, see through walls and set off environmental hazards from a distance. He compared the character to "a cross between John Wick and James Bond".

Missions would have been handcrafted, in the style of the original trilogy, but with "Hitman-style freedom" over how each one was completed. Dantics also said the game would have brought back Liara as an "incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch", and that it would have tied all three endings of Mass Effect 3 into one storyline. Other claimed features include brutal close-range executions, squadmates who could clash with one another, romances he said would not have been "sanitised", and a Shepard legacy that stayed intact whatever ending a player chose.

Dantics also says he served on a BioWare community council he calls the "Mass Effect Council". He said that role gave him a view of what BioWare was building and a chance to give feedback during development. Eurogamer reports that neither BioWare nor EA has commented on his claims.

BioWare has said publicly that work on a new Mass Effect game is under way. In a studio update dated 29 January 2025, it said a core team was developing the next game under the leadership of veterans. In a post for N7 Day on 7 November 2025, it said EA and BioWare remained committed to telling more Mass Effect stories, and that the next game was in development.

For players, the picture is simple for now. The studio has not confirmed or denied any of them. Any official word on the next Mass Effect game is likely to come from BioWare and EA directly.
