Billy Evans Full-Frontal Shower Scene Draws Attention to Elizabeth Holmes Documentary

A full-frontal shower scene featuring Billy Evans, the partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is at the centre of talk around You Can See Everything, the documentary co-directed by Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder, Variety reported on 25 October.
The film opened in cinemas on 16 October, after more than three years in development. It follows Holmes in the month before she began an 11-year prison sentence for defrauding investors. The filmmakers and a small crew were invited into the couple's San Diego home 34 days before her term started, according to Variety's earlier reporting.
The money side is moving quickly. The film took $15.6 million from 855 theatres in its opening weekend. In its second weekend, after expanding to 2,655 venues, it added another $19.5 million. The official actuals are due on Monday.
Evans appears early in the film. He is filmed working out at a gym, then shown showering naked at home. Oppenheim told Variety that he offered Evans time to shower on the car ride back from the gym. Evans replied, "Want to film me showering?"
Oppenheim said he offered to film in a way that could avoid showing Evans's genitals. Evans, he said, replied that he did not care about being seen naked. The shoot used three cameras: one in the bathroom, one on Nathan, and one outside the bathroom.
Evans spoke about the film on the All-In podcast. He said he had not seen it before release. "I haven't seen it," he said. "I might think this is the dumbest thing I have ever done." Earlier, in a 16 October report, Variety noted that Evans admitted Holmes "looks insane" in the film's trailers, and that he defended the decision to have the documentary made.
For a film that began with a request to see a couple at home, the shower scene is a clear example of how far a documentary team will go to show something ordinary. It also shows how much a single moment can shape the conversation around a release. Viewers who want the full context can see how the scene sits within the film's wider portrait of Holmes and her life before prison.
The film's run continues in cinemas, and the next weekend figures will show whether its audience keeps growing.
