Fox will premiere its Baywatch reboot on January 6 at 9 p.m., Variety reported on Monday.

The new series picks up decades after the original. Stephen Amell plays a grown-up Hobie Buchannon, who is now a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his father, Mitch. Mitch was played by David Hasselhoff in the first show, which debuted in 1989 and aired in more than 200 countries.

Hobie's storyline gets a new twist in the form of Charlie, a daughter he never knew about. Jessica Belkin plays Charlie, who wants to become a Baywatch lifeguard herself.

The cast also includes Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone. Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda and Charlie McElveen have recurring roles, meaning they appear across several episodes without being in every one. Megan Thee Stallion also makes an appearance.

Fox picked up the show in September 2025 for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. That order was for 12 episodes. Fox co-produces the series with Fremantle, a production company. McG directed the premiere episode, and he is one of several executive producers, the senior producers who oversee a show's creative direction and budget. The others are Matt Nix, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.

Production started in Los Angeles in the spring, after an open casting call in early 2026. That call was open to actors who had not been booked in advance, which is how many of the cast members were found.

Fox released the full trailer on October 13, ahead of the January premiere, Deadline reported. A trailer is a short preview cut from the show's footage, and it usually signals how close a series is to air.

For viewers, the practical news is the date and the network. The show will air on Fox, which is broadcast television, so it can be watched through a regular TV rather than a streaming subscription. Fox has not, in the reports cited here, said how the episodes will be released after the premiere.
