Chvrches has released "Overthinker," the second single from its fifth album, "All the King's Men." The album is set to arrive on 22 January through Futures, an independent label group, according to Billboard. It will be the band's first album in almost six years.

The Glasgow trio is made up of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Its last album, "Screen Violence," came out in 2021. The band then went on hiatus, a planned break from working together. "Screen Violence" included "How Not to Drown," a collaboration with The Cure frontman Robert Smith.

Before the new single came out, the band played an invite-only charity show at Assumption Studios in Glasgow on 26 October. The show was phone-free, so the audience could not film or share it. Assumption Studios is a converted church, and it was also where "All the King's Men" was recorded.

Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil joined the band on stage for three songs. One was a cover of Biffy Clyro's 2007 single "Machines." Chvrches also debuted eight new songs from the album. The set included two older tracks, "The Mother We Share" from 2013 and "Clearest Blue" from 2015.

The band's album history is strong on the UK charts. All four of its previous records reached the top 10 of the Official Albums Chart, the weekly UK list that ranks albums by sales and streams. "Screen Violence" and 2015's "Every Open Eye" both peaked at No. 4.

Touring comes next. Chvrches will start a North American tour in February to support the album. The tour will be followed by dates in the UK and Ireland, ending on 6 May at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. The band announced its 2027 UK and Ireland shows on 21 October, as NME reported.

Before that, the band has one more small-room date. Chvrches will play an intimate gig at St Matthias Church in London on 29 October. For fans who want to hear the new songs before the album arrives, that show is the next chance to do so in person.
