Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Could Get a Third Season With a New Direction

Apple TV and Legendary Television are in talks about a third season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and it could look quite different from what came before. Deadline reported on 29 October 2026 that the planned season would take the show in a new direction, bringing in new Titans. Titans are the giant creatures of Legendary's Monsterverse, the shared film and TV world the series belongs to.
The people making the show are also changing. The first two seasons were run by showrunner Chris Black, meaning the lead writer who oversees the series day to day. Black co-created the show with Matt Fraction, who was an executive producer on Season 1. According to Deadline, the search is now underway for new writers and a new showrunner to take over.
Season 2 premiered worldwide on Apple TV on Friday, 27 February 2026, according to Apple's own announcement. It ran for 10 episodes, with one released every Friday. Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm were in the cast. Deadline says the season wrapped its run on 1 May.
The show sits inside a wider deal. Legendary has a multi-series arrangement with Apple TV, and that includes an untitled spinoff centred on Young Lee Shaw. Wyatt Russell is set to reprise his role as Colonel Lee Shaw in the spinoff and will also serve as an executive producer. Legendary licensed its Monsterverse rights from Toho, the Japanese company that owns the Godzilla character. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce the series for Toho.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures are also executive producers on Monarch. Their names sit alongside the Toho and Legendary teams on the show's credits.
For now, the third season is a matter of talks, not a finished deal. It is not yet on air, and the writers' room that will shape it is still being assembled. For the crew and cast of Season 2, that means waiting to learn whether, and how, the story picks up again.
