Silent Hill: Townfall now has a Hard difficulty mode. Konami added it in patch 1.6.0, which covers PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The horror game launched on PS5 and PC on 24 September. Screen Burn developed it, and Konami publishes it, meaning Konami handles its release and marketing. Konami published the patch notes on 29 October under the title "SILENT HILL: Townfall Notice: Game Update (Patch 1.6.0)".

The update does more than add a setting. Konami says it rebalanced gameplay across all difficulty modes to create a smoother difficulty curve, the steady rise from easier to harder play. Resources were also adjusted in some sections as part of that work.

Several changes affect how enemies and warnings work. Enemy hearing sensitivity now depends on the difficulty setting and rises as the difficulty goes up. The reduction in attack severity for The Weight, which lowers how hard its attacks hit, now applies only in Story Mode. If someone sets their first playthrough to Nightmare, a warning screen now appears first.

Players will also find a few quality-of-life changes. Player position now shows on the map in every difficulty mode. The difficulty selection screen gives a clearer summary of how the options differ. Hints and tutorials have been added, and some puzzle hints and item descriptions have been reworded.

Other changes focus on access and settings. The valve status lighting has been improved for colourblind players. The options menu has been reorganised so settings sit in clearer categories. The controls remapping menu has been renamed to make clear that keyboard and mouse commands can be changed there too. PC players also get a new DLSS Ray Reconstruction option, a graphics setting from Nvidia that uses AI to improve image quality.

Eurogamer reported that the latest build is v1.6.155963 on PC and v1.6.156035 on PS5. Players can find their version number in the lower right corner of the main menu, which helps when checking whether the update is installed.

For anyone who has already finished the game on a lower setting, the Hard mode is the clearest new reason to return. The rest of the patch changes how the game explains itself, from its menus to its hints.
