Cardi B told students at Johns Hopkins University to pass their semester on their own and not to ask ChatGPT for the answers. She made the remark during her performance at Hoptoberfest, the university's annual Halloween event, Billboard reported.

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that writes answers to questions on request. Her comment spoke to a question many students face at exam time, when a shortcut is a few keystrokes away.

The rapper was a late addition to the bill. Daniel Caesar, who had been set to headline, cancelled, and Cardi B took the top slot. A headliner is the act that closes the show and draws the biggest crowd.

Hoptoberfest is put on each year by the Hopkins Student Organization for Programming, which runs student events on the Baltimore campus. This year's event was moved from Saturday, Oct. 31, to Sunday, Nov. 1, so the Halloween celebration went ahead a day later than planned.

For students, the event offered a live performance and a direct message from a major guest. For the organisers, the job was finding a replacement act after a cancellation, and getting a headliner ready for a rescheduled date.

Cardi B is one of the best-known rappers in the United States, with a run of chart-topping singles and albums over the past decade. Her appearance at a university event is a reminder that headline acts book campus dates across the country, and that student programming boards often rely on last-minute changes to fill a bill.
