Tim Robbins and Giancarlo Esposito Join Apple TV's Monsterverse Series

Tim Robbins and Giancarlo Esposito will guest star in Apple TV's upcoming Monsterverse series, Deadline reported on 5 November 2026. The Monsterverse is the shared film and TV world built around giant monsters, including Godzilla and Kong.
The new series is centred on Young Lee Shaw. It follows Col. Lee Shaw on a 1984 secret mission behind enemy lines, with a single goal: stop the Soviets from unleashing a new Titan, the word the franchise uses for its giant creatures.
Wyatt Russell leads the series and is also an executive producer. He returns to the role he played in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Apple TV show starring Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell. Joby Harold is the showrunner, meaning the lead writer who runs the show day to day.
The series already had a sizeable cast before this announcement. Millie Brady, Pilou Asbaek, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson, Nyasha Hatendi, Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic were announced earlier. Robbins and Esposito join that group as guest stars, which means they appear in some episodes rather than across the whole run.
The rights side of the project runs through Japan. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita are executive producers on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the company that owns the Godzilla character. Toho's involvement means the studio that created the monster is closely tied to how the new show is made.
The wider franchise has more on the way. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is set for release in 2027. Apple also said in February 2026 that season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters would premiere globally on Friday, February 27, on Apple TV.
For fans who have followed the Russells' storyline across the earlier shows, the new series offers a return to the Shaw family and a trip back to the Cold War. For everyone else, it is a new entry point into a franchise that has spread from cinemas to the living room over the past few years.
