Adam Driver Says He Won't Return for the Girls Revival

Adam Driver will not return for the new Girls series. Asked by Cinema Blend whether he would come back, the actor gave a short answer: "No, but I wish them the best of luck."
The question came up while he was talking about his role in James Gray's film Paper Tiger. Driver played Adam Sackler, the character he was known for in the original show, which ran on HBO from 2012 to 2017.
The new version is still going ahead. According to Variety, Lena Dunham is set to return as Hannah, the lead character she created and wrote. Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet are also set to reprise their roles. Andrew Rannells will return as Elijah Krantz.
The series will run for five episodes on HBO, a limited run that ends after a set number of episodes rather than continuing season after season. Production is set to begin in 2027, Variety reported, so filming is still more than a year away.
Driver's next project is already on the calendar. Paper Tiger stars Driver and Scarlett Johansson, and distributor Neon has said it will open in a limited theatrical release on November 13, 2026. A limited release means the film plays in a smaller number of cinemas at first, often in larger cities, before any wider rollout.
For fans of the original show, the news is a clear answer to a question that has been circulating. Driver's character will not appear in the new episodes, and the cast that does return will be the one that carries the story forward. Production schedules can shift, and the start date and episode count are the details to watch as the series moves toward filming.
