Wuchang: Fallen Feathers hits 5 million players as its original studio is gone

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has surpassed 5 million players, a milestone announced on July 24, 2026 as part of the game's first-anniversary celebration Eurogamer. The Soulslike action RPG — a genre named for its punishing combat and exploration, popularised by FromSoftware's Dark Souls — is set in the land of Shu during the late Ming Dynasty. By March 2026, it had sold over 1 million copies, according to industry analysts cited by Eurogamer.
Behind the player count, the studio that built the game is gone. Developer Leenzee's core team was disbanded within months of launch. The split reportedly followed the departure of key senior staff and the remaining team's refusal to become a support studio — a studio that provides assistance on other companies' projects rather than leading its own. Producer and director Xia Siyuan has since formed a new studio.
The intellectual property has moved on too. Italian publisher and developer Digital Bros, parent company of 505 Games, fully acquired the rights to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers for roughly €4 million in April 2026. The game's last update arrived on November 20, 2025 — over eight months ago, as of the anniversary milestone.
Wuchang holds a "mixed" rating on Steam, the primary PC storefront where player reviews aggregate into an overall sentiment score. Eurogamer's own review called the game "Soulslike comfort food" with "few true surprises" — a solid entry in a crowded genre, if not a genre-defining one.
What makes the 5 million figure striking is the gap between the game's reach and its apparent dormancy. Millions of players have engaged with a title whose original creative team has scattered, whose IP has changed hands, and whose update pipeline has gone quiet since late 2025. The milestone was announced via a Bluesky post on July 24 Eurogamer.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was published by 505 Games, which showcased the title ahead of its July 24, 2025 launch with a community presentation earlier that month. The game had earlier made its public debut at Summer Game Fest on June 12, 2025. Pre-order bundles included Enhanced Costume Sets, each containing five cosmetic pieces.
Whether the IP's new owner, Digital Bros, has plans for updates, sequels or further content for Wuchang has not been announced. The 5 million player count now stands as both a celebration and an open question.
