Amazon Prime Video has acquired international rights to the upcoming Baywatch reboot, securing the show for much of Europe — including France, Germany, Italy and Spain — along with Canada, Latin America and India. The deal, brokered by Fremantle, which handled all international sales for the new series, also includes the complete Baywatch back catalogue across those same territories: all nine seasons of the original series plus seasons 9 and 10 of Baywatch Hawaii, the show's later rebrand. The two seasons of the spin-off Baywatch Nights were not part of the package. (The Hollywood Reporter, 4 August 2026)

The reboot's first season runs 12 episodes and will debut on Fox in January 2027 as part of the network's 2026–27 schedule, with Prime Video carrying it internationally later in the year. Fox Entertainment Global holds all domestic distribution rights. Fremantle and Fox Entertainment are producing the series, which received a straight-to-series order — meaning no pilot episode is shot first; the network commits to a full season from the start. (Fremantle, 23 September 2025)

Matt Nix serves as showrunner and executive producer. The executive producer roster includes McG, original series creators Michael Berk and Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG will direct the series premiere. The cast is led by Stephen Amell alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck and Brooks Nader. (The Hollywood Reporter, 4 August 2026)

Michela Di Mondo, executive VP of distribution for Canada and international at Fremantle, announced the Prime Video partnership. The new series will air in more than 200 countries, according to Variety. (Variety, 1 July 2026)

The original Baywatch, starring David Hasselhoff, was cancelled by NBC after a single season. It survived through syndication — a distribution model where stations license a show directly, bypassing network scheduling — and became a global phenomenon. At its peak, it was the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries and reaching more than a billion viewers every week. (The Hollywood Reporter, 4 August 2026)

For audiences in the licensed territories, the deal means both the new reboot and the remastered original series will sit side by side on Prime Video. Amazon will also launch the newly remastered original Baywatch in the US, Australia and Canada on 20 January, under a separate deal with Fremantle. (produ.com)

What gives the deal its weight is the scale. A property that once proved a cancelled network show could find a second life — and a massive audience — through international distribution is now being distributed through a streaming platform across the same territories that made it a household name the first time around. The business has changed. The geography of the audience has not.
